Dupuytren's disease

Dupuytren’s disease is one of our specialty areas for Bisson Plastic Surgery. Marcus Bisson completed his higher degree (of two years) researching this debilitating hand condition.

Surgically this condition can be treated through releasing the thickening of the tissue just below the skin, enabling the fingers to straighten again.

Surgery details

  • A day case procedure
  • General anaesthetic or arm blocks can be used
  • Usually hand is splinted for one week, then progressed into use with hand therapy
  • Often required to wear a night split for six weeks
