Trigger finger and trigger thumb surgery is undertaken to release the tendon tunnels of the problematic digit.

This surgery aims to improve and achieve smooth gliding of finger and/or thumb tendons, freeing the respective digit up for normal use.

Surgery details

  • A day case procedure
  • Trigger finger surgery usually undertaken with local anaesthetic
  • Trigger thumb surgery is undertaken with a general or local anaesthetic
  • Fingers/thumbs allowed to be used immediately within the limits of the bandage
  • Stitches removed two weeks after surgery
